Director of the Early Childhood Center
Sandi Bettan is our Director of the Early Childhood Center. Sandi earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education and a Master's Degree in Reading Education, and is certified by the State Of New York. The philosophy of our center is to embrace, educate and nurture the whole child. We work together as a team to provide a warm and loving environment in which Jewish values are instilled.
Principal of our Religious School
Lisa Stein earned her Bachelor's degree from Binghamton University and a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Pennsylvania as well as a Certificate in Jewish Communal Service from Gratz College in Philadelphia. Lisa is also a New York State Licensed Clinical Social Worker.
She began her career in Philadelphia working as a social worker for Jewish Family and Children's Service while also serving as a Young Judaea Chapter Advisor. In 1999 Lisa decided to switch the focus of her work and accepted a position in Silver Spring, Maryland as the Seaboard Regional Director for Young Judaea. Lisa also had the opportunity during this time to work at Camp Tel Yehudah, the senior leadership camp for Young Judaea, and while there met her husband. Lisa moved to New York where she continued to work for Young Judaea, first as a liaison with the JCC Association and subsequently as a District Director in their National Office.
Lisa joined Midway Religious School in 2008 and assumed the role of Principal at the beginning of the 2014-15 school year. Lisa finds great personal and professional satisfaction in working with the children and families at Midway and she looks forward to watching the synagogue grow in the future. Lisa is originally from Syracuse, New York and is proud to say that she was named, bat mitzvahed and married all on the same bima at Temple Adath Yeshurun, where she also served as President of USY (the beginning of her Jewish communal service career!) Lisa is most proud of the titles Wife to Stu and Mom to Gabriella and Maxwell.
Genea Moore joined the MJC family in May of 2017. She comes with a wealth of synagogue management knowledge, after spending 10 years as part of the administration team of Central Synagogue of New York and 5 years as a clergy assistant at Community Synagogue in Port Washington, NY. Genea holds a B.A. in Journalism and a M.A. in Media Arts from LIU, Brooklyn Campus. Genea is a native of Jamaica, NY and a recent Jewish Convert. She looks forward to being a cardinal part of the MJC Community.
Laura Sameyah, Office Manager, has a strong background in Jewish Education; she attended the Hebrew Academy of Nassau County for 13 years and is a member of Great Neck Synagogue. Laura also teaches 3rd Grade Hebrew part-time at Temple Beth Israel. We are delighted to have found an experienced Office Administrator who is hard working, highly detail oriented, and wishes to utilize her skills in an inspiring environment like ours.
Laura’s expertise is complemented by her warmth and enthusiasm. She is an alumna of Hofstra University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with Honors having made Dean’s List- for four semesters, and is a member of the Psi Chi National Psychology Honor Society. Finally, Laura is fluent in Farsi, Intermediate French, and Hebrew.
Religious School Administrator
Danielle Brethel joined Midway in January 2017 as our new Religious School Administrator. She attended Temple Emanuel of Great Neck where she became a Bat Mitzvah. Danielle Graduated from SUNY Albany with a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology. When she is not working at Midway, Danielle is teaching dance to children of all ages. Danielle brings with her extraordinary organizational skills, diligence, and a positive energy within the workplace.
